X-Posted from H-NET List for Environmental History <H-ENVIRONMENT@H-NET.MSU.EDU> From: Mara Drogan <maradrogan@VERIZON.NET> _______ From: "Thomas Finger" <firstname.lastname@example.org> Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 3:19 PM ASEH 2011 Panel Proposal - Railroads and the Environment Hello, I would like the put together a panel for 2011's ASEH annual meeting in Phoenix that thinks in a variety of ways about the relationship between railroads and the natural world. That's the general outline, but I am open to any specific paper that would fall under this broad topic. My paper would focus on how the construction and maintenance of railroads actually fostered the growth of natural knowledge that would be used later to decry railroads themselves, and the economic practices they fostered, as wasteful and "unnatural." Any other paper that deals in some way with railroads and nature will be considered. Please email me at email@example.com sometime in the next couple of weeks if you are interesting in becoming a part of this panel. Cheers, Thomas D.
