Marc Harris's speculation about the link between Chicago's Colombian
Exposition and the Washington Mall is, I suspect, on the money, which
is why, several weeks ago, I suggested that the answer to this query
lies with architect and urban planner Daniel Burnham who was involved
in the design of both projects.
