On October 28 and 29, The Center for Jacksonian America at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville will host two presentations by Daniel Walker Howe, winner of the Pulitzer and SHEAR prizes and former president of SHEAR. On Tuesday, October 28, Professor Howe will speak on the subject of his book "What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848" at 5:00 PM in the Ballroom of the University Center at 1502 Cumberland Avenue on the Knoxville campus. The next day, Wednesday, October 29, he will speak on "Resisting Political Correctness: Academic Historians and the General Public," again at 5:00 PM in the Hermitage Room of the University Center. Both events are free and open to the public. A reception and book-signing will follow each talk. The Center for Jacksonian America at the University of Tennessee was inaugurated in 2005 to promote scholarship, public dialogue, and graduate training on the (so-called) Jacksonian era of American history from roughly 1815 to 1848. The Center combines the resources of the University Libraries, the History Department, and two documentary editing projects based at UT, The Papers of Andrew Jackson and The Correspondence of James K. Polk. The Center welcomes inquiries about its activities and about graduate study at UT. Contact the Director, Professor Daniel Feller, at dfeller@utk.edu or 865-974-7077. [Daniel Feller]
