Dear readers: We are happy to notice that Daniel Walker Howe, an occasional contributor to H-SHEAR and a veteran SHEARite, is a recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in History for his WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT? THE TRANSFORMATION OF AMERICA, 1815-1848 (Oxford, 2007). Also nominated as finalists in this category were: NIXON AND KISSINGER: PARTNERS IN POWER by Robert Dallek (HarperCollins), and THE COLDEST WINTER: AMERICA AND THE KOREAN WAR by the late David Halberstam (Hyperion). The award not only recognizes Dan Howe's remarkable talent as a historian, but also is a tribute to the dynamism and richness of our field of study, especially in the past 10-15 years. Congratulations, Dan! regards Peter ******************************* Peter Knupfer Associate Professor Editor, H-SHEAR@H-NET.MSU.EDU MATRIX Center Michigan State University Voice: 517 355 9300 FAX: 517 355 8363 Internet: repub@mail.h-net.msu.edu *******************************
