Greetings, H-SHEAR friends: Next week the list will feature another interactive review of a new book in our field. The book under consideration will be: Richard S. Newman, _The Transformation of American Abolitionism: Fighting Slavery in the Early Republic_ (UNC Press, 2002). Our reviewer is Dr. Anthony Iaccarino, assistant professor of History and Humanities at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He earned his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1999 and is currently revising his dissertation, "Virginia and the National Contest over Slavery in the Early Republic, 1776-1835," for publication by the University Press of Virginia. Prof. Iaccarino is this year the Gilder Lehrman Fellow at the International Center for Jefferson Studies in Charlottesville, Virginia. I thank him for the fine contribution of his review to H-SHEAR. I'll post the review on Monday, October 28. The following day, I'll distribute Professor Newman's reply and then open the list to your further comments.
