Second, I've now received a slightly different explanation: the archivists claim that these Gulag documents (having to do with the Party Organization of the Gulag administration in Novosibirsk Oblast') are property of the MVD, not of the archive, and therefore if the MVD does not want me to have photocopies, there is nothing the archive can do. Could this be true? In any case, a senior professor at the Institute of History at the Siberian Division of RAN is currently trying to resolve the situation. He has also agreed to find a way to get the copies to me if the issue is decided in my favour. All the best, Wilson Bell ---- Wilson T.
