See http://historynewsnetwork.org/articles/article.html?id=741 In my opinion, Bellesiles was part of a group of historians campaigning strongly against the "individual right", aka Standard Model, interpretation. If Emory University's investigation ends in a strongly adverse finding against Bellesiles, then the pro-gun control briefs in Emerson would, in my opinion, be also discredited --because they have many citations to Bellesiles' work.
