--------------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR SESSION PROPOSALS Ohio Museums Association's Annual Conference, "Energize, Equip & Connect" April 17-19, 2005 Columbus, Ohio The Worthington Inn OMA needs your help to develop an inspirational annual conference that is relevant and meets your needs. Submit a session proposal for the 2005 conference to be held in Columbus at The Worthington Inn. The conference theme will be "Energize, Equip & Connect". The idea being that the conference and its sessions will energize the group and equip them with the tools they need to perform their jobs at a higher level. The conference will be structured to encourage long term connections among participants. We hope to create an innovative conference that is worthy of the time and money spent by those who attend. We need your help to deliver this promise. Send in a proposal for a session you would like to attend! A variety of formats are encouraged from hands on sessions, round table discussions, panels and lectures (to name a few). Keep in mind what has been exciting for you as an attendee in the past. Case studies and sessions that are simply descriptive - this is what we did and this is what happened - are often unsatisfying to your colleagues. Think of ways to create real nuts and bolts sessions or introduce an analysis of a problem or issue. Engaging sessions open discussion and provide an opportunity for museum professionals to examine how other professionals and institutions solve problems, develop programs, produce exhibits and deliver what the public wants while staying true to a mission. We invite proposals that examine different points of view, involve innovative thinking and take new approaches to problems. Remember that the audience comes from a wide variety of institutions that vary in size and discipline. Think of a particularly interesting program you are proud of and would like to share with fellow professionals. Are you accomplished at your job and have tips to pass on that would be valuable to others? Sessions on administration, collections, conservation, development, education, exhibits, marketing, membership, museum store, public relations, visitor services and volunteers are all vital to our attendees and would be welcome. Sessions should be 1 hour 15 minutes in length. The submission deadline is November 10th. E-mail or mail your proposal to OMA, 1982 Velma Ave., Columbus, OH 43211; firstname.lastname@example.org. Any questions call 614/297-2375. When submitting a proposal, please include the following information: * Title and author of proposal: name, title, institution, address; phone, fax and e-mail * Session title and format: roundtables are led by a leader and are informal group discussions on a specific issue; panels are composed of several speakers that offer different perspectives on a topic or issue; workshops actively teach specific skills. * Description of session for the conference program: in 50 words or less sell your session to prospective participants. Who would be interested, what will they learn, why is the topic interesting. * Speakers: provide name, title, institution or company, address, phone, fax, email of all speakers OMA reserves the right to evaluate all proposals and to schedule those that accomplish the goal of a balanced program. Submission deadline is November 10, 2004.
