-------------------------------------------------- [note from conference program co-chair: we are especially interested in how public historians of all kinds have wrestled with the issues discussed in the CFP] CALL FOR PAPERS THE PEACE HISTORY SOCIETY will be sponsoring its third international conference, "Peace Work: The Labor of Peace Activism, Past, Present, and Future," April 25-27, 2003 at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, USA. Professor Mitch Hall will handle local arrangements. Suggested topics for papers, panels, and performances related to the conference theme may include, but are not limited to: teaching peace in communities and classrooms; the intersections between peace activism and other social movements; the ways in which gender, sexuality, race, class, religion, age, geography, and other identities shape understandings and practices of peace; transnational peace history; the role of artists in peace advocacy; the impact of peace movements upon public policy; local responses to war and terrorism; antiwar organizing on the part of enlisted servicemen and women, veterans, and former government officials; the economics of war and peace; documenting and archiving peace history; and roundtable discussions on key works of peace scholarship. The program committee especially seeks presentations that foster dialogue among artists, activists, educators, and scholars. The committee also encourages proposals for papers or panels that employ comparative or interdisciplinary analysis.Additionally, we encourage proposals from scholars outside the United States. Proposals for individual papers or complete panels are welcome. Sessions should feature 2-3 papers and a moderator. All proposals for individual papers or complete panels should include the following: (1) A summary of prospective papers, no longer than 250 words each, and (2) the names and addresses of each participant, accompanied by a brief biographical sketch or vita.
