------------------------------------------------------- The Jewish Museum Berlin - A Review reviewed by Susannah Reid, University of Newcastle / UK The full text version is located at: http://www.vl-museen.de/aus-rez/reid01-1.htm Summary: The review will look at various aspects of the Jewish Museum Berlin, concentrating mainly on the interaction of the architecture with the museum' s functions and on the exhibitions. It covers visitor orientation, the exhibitions, exhibition design, museum fatigue and the museum's other functions. The purpose of this review is to examine the degree of success or failure, which both the museum staff and the architect have achieved in these areas to create a modern museum for the public. This review is an adaptation and expansion of a section of the author's postgraduate dissertation, entitled "Iconic museum buildings: servants to cultural representation or slaves to architectural ideology?" The dissertation was submitted for the degree of MA Museum Studies at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England in October 2001. Any comments or criticism will be received with interest by the author. ------------------------------------------------ Copyright (c) 2001 by VL-Museen, 'Museum Professionals', all rights reserved.
