Dr. Barad asked: "A recent report on anti-Semitism by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia was apparently shelved due to complaints of poor methodology. At the same time, it has been suggested in the media that the report was withheld because it offended the sensibilities of some Muslims and pro-Palestinian groups. Can anyone direct me to an unbiased account of this controversy?" Fortunately, the report written by the Berlin Centre for Anti-Semitic Research isn't any longer "shelved." The EU Monitoring Center (EUMC) in Vienna still does NOT accept the Berlin report, but makes it available in the interests of transparency. http://eumc.eu.int/eumc/FT.htm This website includes both the 2002 synthesis report written by the Centre for Anti-Semitic Research (Technical University of Berlin) as well as a statement on this report by the EUMC which commissioned the report. Until today the EUMC did not allow the Berlin Centre for Anti-Semitic Research to make the report public. Therefore I appreciate today's decision to make the report available on the EUMC website. Now you can make up your own mind regarding this controversy. Cheers, Joerg Wolf Graduate Student, Free University of Berlin P.S.: I appreciate this wonderful mailing list very much since I learn a lot from your emails.
