This rather self-serving press release of the HIS should not go
uncommented. A few points:
> Bis dahin gehen wir weiterhin davon aus, dass auf den > Fotos aus
Zloczow beide Opfergruppen zu sehen sind > und belassen die Bilder in
der Ausstellung.
Yet, the controversial photographs appear under the headword
"Genickschuesse" and are attributed to the Wehrmacht. There is no
comment that some of the photographs may also show Ukrainian victims of
the NKVD.

What "media offensive"? So far I could only find two longer pieces in
DER SPIEGEL ("Leichen im Obstgarten," January 25, 1999) and the Berliner
Morgenpost ("Die falschen Fotos zum richtigen Thema," January 25, 1999).
Both are reasonable and balanced. They also contain additional
background information that is (conveniently?) omitted from the HIS
press release. I suggest members of H-German see for themselves and
consult the two articles.
As I have pointed out in my review of the companion book, the exhibition
does have a number of shortcomings. It is slated to travel abroad and
perhaps it will be shown in the Netherlands in the near future. In this
case it should not go without adding some comments (and, if possible,
photographs) on the participation of Dutch volunteers in shootings of
Jews and other atrocities. Or does the HIS still believe that changes
are not necessary? Just wondering.
Cheers,
