Dear colleagues, I am working on a research project on the social history of the engineering profession in the G.D.R., and would like to concentrate a bit more on the gender aspect of my study. To this end, I would like to do some in-depth reading in the area of gender studies. I think I understand the women's history dimension pretty well, but I'm now struggling to understand masculinity, and would be grateful for any suggestions for readings--not just on masculinity and technology or masculinity and professions (though those themes are naturally of interest, too)--but more generally on masculinity. Anything applicable to East Germany is of interest. Is there a literature on masculinity for West Germany as well? Even general theory of masculinity would be helpful. Dolores L.
