> Let me second Richard Herskowitz's posting on avant-garde films dealing > with immigration and exile. I might add to his list Su Friedrich's > lovely piece about her mother--The Ties That Bind. Another avant-garde semi-documentary which deals with immigration (and colonialism and family) and is similar in style to the work of Friedrich, is Annie Goldson's 'Wake', from here in New Zealand. I have also just been lucky enough to see the brilliant cut-out animation 'Songs of the Immigrant Bride' by the NZer working in Australia, Jill Carter-Hansen. Look out for this in festivals.
