I'm writing a paper on the way the Jewish exilic experiences at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th Centuries are re-worked in movies. I have read Neal Gabler's seminal book "An Empire of their own", and am fascinated by the way stories of immigration and assimilation were produced by studios run by Jewish immigrants, yet with little reference to Jewish ethnicity. Obviously "The Jazz Singer" is an exception, but can anyone point me towards early or classical films which might be relevent, either because of their Jewish content, or immigration themes. Thanks for any help! Martha Snowdon -------------------- Martha Snowdon, University of Southampton mms200@soton.ac.uk
