To: "H-NET List for Environmental History" <H-ENVIRONMENT@H-NET.MSU.EDU> Subject: CFP, Special Journal Issue: Envt/Public History in Asia, Africa, LA, E. Europe Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 19:41:37 +0000 Call for Proposals: Articles for Special Issue of The Public Historian (TPH) "Public History and the Environment" (2009 publication) Special issue guest editors Catherine Christen and Lisa Mighetto are soliciting proposals for articles exploring how historical studies on environment and science-related topics have contributed to public history as practiced by the authors or others in various regions in the developing world, especially Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Environmental justice; state relations with historical environmental/science information; traditional/western science interactions and conflicts; workshop and mediation approaches to using environmental history; museum or cultural center experiences; analyses of community history activities, among other topics, are of special interest. Similar to our 2004 U.S./Western Europe-focused TPH issue, this one will engage authors in analysis of their experiences with public historical work on the environment, and environmental history work in the public sphere. Publication is scheduled to coincide with the International Consortium of Environmental History Organizations 2009 world environmental history conference. Please send your title and paper proposal (500 words maximum) to Kate Christen (christenc@si.edu ) by May 1, 2006. Authors interested in discussing potential topics are strongly encouraged to contact Kate by email prior to either ASEH 2006 or NCPH/OAH 2006 to arrange an in-person discussion at one of those meetings.
