This list of 50 books hearkens back to an earlier day in DC Public Library's history--back in 1931 (and a few years earlier) they published a Washingtoniana bibliography: Corporate Name: Washington, D.C. Public library. Main Title: Books about Washington, D.C. Published/Created: Washington, U. S. Govt. print. off., 1931. Description: cover-title, 8 p. 16 cm. I believe the last general DC bibliography done was in 1981: Main Title: A selected bibliography for Washington studies and descriptions of major local collections / compiled and annotated by Perry G. Fisher and Linda J. Lear. Published/Created: Washington, D.C. : Center for Washington Area Studies, George Washington University, c1981. To follow the publication of "Selected Theses and Dissertations on the Washington, D.C. Region" Compiled by Rita A. Calvan (1982), and "Master's theses and doctoral dissertations on the history of the District of Columbia" by Richard R. Duncan, I've been compiling the scholarly "grey" literature for the past decade in _Washington History_: Gilmore, Matthew B. "Metropolitan Washington Studies: a compilation of master's theses and doctoral dissertations on the Washington, D.C. area." [part I] Washington History 5 (1) (Spring-Summer 1993): 80-83. "Metro Washington studies." [part II] Washington History 5 (2) (Fall/Winter 1993-94): 93-94. "Metro Washington studies." Washington History 7 (1) (Spring/Summer 1995): 86- 90 [includes theses, dissertations, scholarly articles] _____. Washington History 8 (1) (Spring/Summer 1996): 70-72. _____. Washington History 9 (1) (Spring/Summer 1997): 73-75. _____. Washington History 10 (1) Spring/Summer 1998): 89-92. _____.
