The Washingtoniana Division and the DC Center for the Book came up with the 50 essential books for a small 3-fold publication (which can be picked up in the Washingtoniana Division). It seems to follow the model of others, Michigan for example: http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449-57682--,00.html 50 Essential Michigan History Books http://www.michiganhistorymagazine.com/features/images/50books.pdf This discussion is not meant to quibble with their choices (which must have been very hard to make)--but the publicize the list and extend it; to prompt discussion on the list of history resources. Unlike print publications, a website can extend almost infinitely and I will put up the results of this thread as an extension of the Washingtoniana/DCCB list. So please do everyone weight in on what books are important to the study and understanding of Washington history, with the above understanding. -- Matthew Gilmore H-DC list co-editor, web editor dc-edit@mail.h-net.msu.edu http://www2.h-net.msu.edu/~dclist/ [list website] http://www2.h-net.msu.edu/lists/subscribe.cgi?list=H-DC [subscribe to H-DC] Remember to check http://h-net.msu.edu/cgi-bin/logbrowse.pl?trx=lm&list=h-dc for past list messages.
