H-ASIA August 25, 1995 Query regarding a detail from the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo **************************************************************************** From: SPENDELOW@guvax.acc.georgetown.edu This is in response to the recent post/introduction by Peter Aradi, but I throw it out in case anyone else has some input: I see you've done work on the staging of the Tokyo Olympics, and wonder if you can confirm a hazy impression that lingers @ the back of my brain. I remember hearing somewhere that the lad who carried the torch into the stadium was then a 19-year-old whose birthday happens to be 6 August -- &, you can fill in the birthplace... If true, then this is none-too-subtle symbolism, & I wonder how much this was played up at the time. Or, is this just another one of those "urban legends"?? -- H. R.
