BOOK UPDATE - Irving v. Lipstadt "The Irving case has done for the new century what the Nuremberg tribunals or the Eichmann trial did for earlier generations." --The Daily Telegraph ---------- Van Pelt's book on the forensic evidence for Auschwitz is due out very soon. If you search Amazon under "Lipstadt" you'll also find citations for books by D.D. Guttenplan "Holocaust on Trial,: and Richard J. Evans "Telling Lies About Hitler." In an email note distributed to supporters in July Prof. Deborah Lipstadt says she is working hard on her book about the trial now that the UK appeals court has upheld the decision of Justice Charges Gray in the case. See http://www.hdot.org/ for the full text of the original decision and the appeals court decision. Given the speed at which the academic press works, I'd expect to see something in print in winter 2002. Books about the case are also expected from historian Martin Gardner and QC Anthony Julius, who led the defense team during the trial. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0253340160/qid=998751998/sr=1-8 /ref=sc_b_8/102-4420772-9124920 "The Case for Auschwitz: Evidence from the Irving Trial" Another book about the Holocaust denial libel suit Irving v. Lipstadt will be published soon. Amazon US has this commercial blurb on its site. See URL for eact reference. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the author nor with Amazon. -------------- The Case for Auschwitz: Evidence from the Irving Trial Robert Jan van Pelt http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0253340160/qid=998751998/sr=1-8 /ref=sc_b_8/102-4420772-9124920 Editorial Reviews Book Description "The Irving case has done for the new century what the Nuremberg tribunals or the Eichmann trial did for earlier generations." --The Daily Telegraph In British historian David Irving's libel suit against Penguin Books and Deborah Lipstadt, charging that Lipstadt's book, Denying the Holocaust (1993) falsely labeled him a Holocaust denier, the question about the evidence for Auschwitz as a death camp played a central role. The defense engaged Robert Jan van Pelt to prepare an expert report presenting the evidence for our knowledge that Auschwitz had been an extermination camp where up to one million Jews were killed, mainly in gas chambers. Employing painstaking historical scholarship, van Pelt submitted an exhaustive forensic report, which helped win the day for the defense. Van Pelt's book is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of the Holocaust and for those who seek to combat Holocaust denial. About the Author Robert Jan van Pelt is Professor in the School of Architecture, University of Waterloo, Canada. He is coauthor (with Debrah Dwork) of Auschwitz: 1270 to the Present, winner of a National Jewish Book Award, 1996, and of the Spiro Kostof Award of the Association of Architectural Historians, 1997, and coauthor (with Carroll William Westfall) of Architectural principles in the Age of Historicism. # # # # Dan Yurman <djysrv@onewest.net>
