Announcement of a new website featuring the Arabic manuscripts of
Hausa historian Malam Haliru.
I have finally uploaded my photographs of Malam Haliru's manuscripts to
the World Wide Web. I had hoped they would be part of a more general
update at a new site on my university server, but there are glitches. I
hope to have that site up later, too.
If you, your students or anyone else you know would like to contribute
translations and/or comments about the manuscripts, please send them to
the Hausa mailing list. If you don't know how to subscribe to the Hausa
mailing list and would like to, contact me. Eventually I hope to put up
a collective publication on the web, maybe for book publication too, of
translations.
If interest in these manuscripts is shown by message traffic on the
Hausa mailing list I will put up more, from the photocopies I made of
other pages. Eventually I hope to start an internet archive of Arabic
script documents from Africa. If not, well . . . that's life. :-)
You can access the Malam Haliru page at
http://www2.gol.com/users/philips/haliru.htm
Beware, the background graphics file is rather large. Individual pages
can be accessed at addresses from
http://www2.gol.com/users/philips/Haliru/haliru01.jpg
through http://www2.gol.com/users/philips/Haliru/haliru49.jpg inclusive.
These files are also rather large.
