Former life-president of Malawi, H. K. Banda, was "an intrguing,
if flawed, character," according to an unsigned obituary in _The
Economist_, 29 November 1997, p. 92. Readers may find find it a
balanced--and perhaps, therefore, unnerving--assessment of what
the journal also calls "one of the most enigmatic characters of
20th-century Africa."
