Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Paul Salopek traced
the gas sold at a Chicago-area station back to its
origins. The story appeared in the Chicago Tribune,
and this link will take you to the print story as well
as his video version - which includes an interesting,
though frustratingly brief, segment on Nigeria (other
segments look at Venezuela, Iraq, and the U.S. Gulf
Coast). "Safari" is his (or his paper's) term; one
quote from the print version: "Few Americans realize
it, but they have hitched their wagon--or rather their
210 million cars and trucks--to Africa's troubled star.
It is a striking development. The planet's last
superpower is rattling its half-empty oilcan at the
poorest continent in the world."
