The discussion on the selection criteria for the list
of 100 "best books" from Africa is lively, well
targetted, and very healthy for the future of African
writing and publishing.
One comment on errors in the list needs some response.
When I saw the list, I noticed numerous errors --
spelling of names, wrong information, including gender
of author, etc.
Margaret Ling ( margaret.ling@geo2.poptel.org.uk ) has
reported to members of Africana Librarians Council that
these errors were due to a last minute problem with the
computer disk which necessitated an even more
last-minute re-keying of the entire list.
It is unfortunate that these errors (which are being
corrected) have distracted some of the discussion of
the list away from the merits of the choices and the
criteria for selection.
