I was interested in your question about how Temashek was written
in the
past. You might enjoy the old home-grown Tuareg system, called
tifinagh; it can be found in the Encyclopaedia of Islam for example.
It has not been common, certainly, to write any "Berber" language in
Arabic characters, though perhaps not totally unknown.
I do not know the policy of the current Libyan government, but
no doubt
others will.
