a brief word about chris gray.
we have been on the central african co-group committee for
amnesty international for some years. chris handled gabon
and the democratic republic of congo.
his first-hand knowledge of the situation in the congo
sprang in part from his scholarship, but even more
especially from his family connections, specifically his
in-laws whom he visited despite the devastation to the state
and to the infrastructure of the country. he was committed,
knowledgeable, and enormously competent as a worker for
amnesty.
more than that though, he was one of the nicest, sweetest,
and most modest guys i've known. it is hard to convey one's
personal feelings for people like chris, but words need to
be said so that the value of his life as an admirable and
likable fellow is adequately appreciated. the loss to our
community, both human rights and human, is considerable
