Richard, When I say that AIDS and gravity are social constructions I mean they are socially constructed EXPLANATIONS of observed phenomena. One sees people dying and one may attribute this to many causes-demons, Satan, weak blood, or an upset immune system. It may turn out that our present understand- ing of why some people die is inadequate and future generations will have a better explanation. That explanation may not be the AIDS explanation at all. They may not then use the word AIDS to describe the sick people. Therefore AIDS (as an explanation) is a social construction. Steve Tripp firstname.lastname@example.org
