I'm trying to use the net to follow the situation in India, which from the reports I've gotten from newspapers is very bad with riots, etc. I just tried to bring up the NETNEWS news group soc.culture.india but it's hopeless. There are over 13000 messages there, and my account just doesn't want to handle it, much less me. I certainly don't want to subscribe to any list unless it is tightly moderated, because I don't want 13000 messages coming by mail either. Yet, I would like to get hour by hour updates on the situation in India and its resolution. I'd also like like to pick up the wire services on this. Is there a better place than the Cleveland FreeNet to do that? I reflect that my problem here must be one we all face whenever there is a crisis. The net goes wild, so there is too much traffic to follow. So how does one use it for what would be most advantageous-- up to date, accurate news? If anyone knows of a reasonable way to use the net to watch the Indian crisis, and by extrapolation other such situations, could you post directions? (Perhaps someone should start a listserv group for this purpose?) Thanks Vickie L. Banks 21602VB@MSU.EDU
