Sent: Thursday, November 19, 2009 3:27 PM Subject: question about German Paleography Classes Better than summer-courses are online-tutorials specially created to learn german paleography, with online-transcription, including an elaborated help system. Such e-learning-tools are independent of place and time, are for free, and, most important, I think paleography (or at least reading old documents) is more about practising and less about theory - just learning by doing yourself. There are at least two such online courses: University of Zurich, texts from the 9th to the 19th century: http://www.adfontes.uzh.ch/ University of Vienna, with examples from the 15th to the 20th century: http://gonline.univie.ac.at > Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten > Erste Schritte im Kurrent-Lesen > Übung Kurrentschrift Sincerely, Daniel Ursprung Universität Zürich-Historisches Seminar Abteilung für Osteuropäische Geschichte Karl Schmid-Str. 4 CH-8006 Zürich Tel.: +41/ (0)44 634 38 77
