---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Yetunde A. Odugbesan <yetunde@andromeda.rutgers.edu> Date: Fri, Sep 18, 2009 at 10:42 AM Subject: Outreach Letter: Rutgers SJDean Search Dear Colleagues: As co-chairs of the search committee, we are writing to ask for your immediate assistance in identifying a broad pool of candidates for the position of Dean of the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University's Newark Campus. The School is committed to diversity, and we want to do everything we can to encourage applications from and nominations of women and minorities. The customary search process may not be reaching academics with criminal justice research interests in such fields as sociology, law, public administration, or public policy. It may also have overlooked prominent criminal justice practitioners and researchers based in non-academic institutions. The School of Criminal Justice is nationally renowned. The Dean bears responsibility for academic leadership, fund raising, strategic planning, budgeting, faculty recruitment and development, student/alumni relations, and day-to-day operations. The Dean represents the faculty to the university, the professional community, and the general public. Located minutes from Manhattan, the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice has long enjoyed a reputation for academic excellence and pathbreaking applied research. Strong candidates will be well-regarded scholars in criminology or criminal justice with academic credentials appropriate for appointment to a senior faculty position. The School will consider nominations of candidates whose pathway into academic life may be non-traditional, or who are in earlier stages of their career than other applicants, but who evidence a strong potential for academic leadership. Significant administrative experience is an advantage. We welcome your suggestions. Please email us with any "leads" at your earliest possible convenience. With sincere thanks in advance for taking the time to help us identify outstanding potential candidates. Dr. Marc Holzer Dean, School of Public Affairs and Administration mholzer@rutgers.edu Dr. Ruth B. Mandel Director, Eagleton Institute of Politics Rmandel@rci.rutgers.edu
