Washington State University shawnaherzog@gmail.com<mailto:shawnaherzog@gmail.com> I am a first year PhD student in the World History program at Washington State University and am researching gender in world history within the context of the British Empire. Thus far, I have read Midgley, Stoler, Cooper, McClintock, Sinha, Burton, Streets and- more recently- Philippa Levine’s articles, “Orientalist Sociology and the Creation of Colonial Sexualities” and “Venereal Disease, Prostitution, and the Politics of Empire: The Case of British India” (I have already requested the book for this). All of these works have given context for gender and Empire; however, I would like to investigate the topic of the sex trade within the Empire- more specifically prostitution- more closely. Can anyone point me to any existing world histories of this trade, or even just histories of the trade, from the informal period of British imperialism through decolonization? As a companion to that, anything on human trafficking during this period would also be fantastic. Any contribution would be sincerely appreciated. All the best,
