Another example comes to mind which may provide some insight into your
couple & their diary...   Nathaniel Hawthorne and Sophia Peabody Hawthorne
kept a shared journal during their courtship and also later wrote in family
journal.  Their "common journal" was published in 2005 in a book called
"Ordinary Mysteries," edited by N. Lawrence & M. Werner.  Also see T.
Walter
Herbert's 1993 book, "Dearest Beloved: The Hawthornes and the Making of the
Middle-Class Family."
