I had always read that the rodents that derailed the tanks in that unit had chewed through the various fan belts which had been lubricated with animal fat. But electric wiring makes sense, too, probably as a secondary result of ravenous rodents gnawing on anything they found. Citino talks about this in his Death of the Wehrmacht. John T.
