I once heard a story that senior British and American officers (and perhaps other English speaking senior staff) met, I think at the Quebec conference during WWII, and were planning joint strategy. After it appeared that a meeting of the minds had been met, someone moved to table the motion. Apparently, "table the motion" has the one meaning in the U.S. (in American-English) and the opposite meaning in Britain (in Anglo-English). According to the story, as I heard it, a fight broke out. Has anyone else heard this story? Does anyone know a bona fide source for this story? If this story happened, do we know who attended? Was Admiral King there?
