In this vein, it's hard to distinguish which is worse, the book's or the reviewers' excuses. _http://www.snopes.com/military/fonda.asp_ (http://www.snopes.com/military/fonda.asp) Bruce Kesler ChFC REBC RHU CLU BNKSD1@aol.com Bnksd1@aol.com -----Message from: email@example.com----- Speaking of revisionist history.... Certainly Ms. Fonda did all those things mentioned in regard to meeting with soldiers, advocating for their rights to free speech, and being concerned with their welfare, etc. Generally activities that can be defended as sincere antiwar activism and concern for the soldiers as people. However, ignoring her trips to North Vietnam, and the clearly negative radio broadcasts she made encouraging soldiers in the field to disobey their commanders, allowing herself to be photographed at the controls of an AA gun whose purpose was to shoot down US planes, giving direct support to the communists as being wonderful humanitarian jailers of our POWs, and not just ignoring by denying all reports of their torture, is not exactly objective reporting. Even when our POWs were finally returned home, she called them liars for telling about their torture. These actions go well beyond sincere patriotic antiwar dissent, and are indeed as much evidence of having more loyalty to the communist side of the war than any other. When Joan Baez and other antiwar figures learned of the vengeance and suppression imposed on the South after Saigon fell, they protested that betrayal of all the promises made by the NLF during the war. Jane Fonda pointedly refused to take part in that protest in any way. She was and has remained enamored of socialist philosophy, very self-righteous.and cocksure she always holds the higher moral ground. An honest biography would not shrink from covering her flaws and faults as well as her commendable actions.
