This isn't an historical question (although maybe), but I am intensely curious to know why it is seemingly so hard in the US to grasp the concept of all-zone DVD players. They are the default in Australia and, I think, much of the rest of the world. The 4 Zone division for DVDs was a mad idea, but given that it exists, why is it such a challenge for our American friends to meet the need without 'DVD backup software' etc?
