Reina Pennington PhD <reinapennington@mac.com> -----Message from: "Robert" <robert.a.mosher@gmail.com>----- Leonard Mosley also wrote an interesting book about the making of the movie "The Battle of Britain" the traces the development of the film project, the effort to obtain the aircraft used in filming it (mostly from Franco-era Spain), the actual film production - especially discussing the aerial scenes, and talks about the actors, actresses, and especially the various technical (i.e. pilot) advisors who participated in the project. Such books represent a distinct genre in their own right and offer interesting insights into how history is translated into film. BTW - if anyone can recall the similar book about the making of the film "The War Lover" which starred Steve McQueen, I would appreciate a pm with the name and author as I would like to track down a copy for my library. I'd also recommend Derek Wood's The Narrow Margin: The Battle of Britain and the Rise of Air Power 1930-1940. Washington, DC: Smithsonian Institution Press, 1990. A classic. For my money, one of the best novels, made into a great mini-series, was Piece of Cake by Derek Robinson.
