Hello everyone. I'm researching the British Royal Navy of the 1793-1815 period. I have found information on the total crew complement of warships, but I'm still looking for information on specific positions, ie how many lieutenants, midshipmen, masters mates etc. would be found in a 64-gun ship or a 98-gun ship etc. Any help with finding that information would be much appreciated. In addition, I have another question. I came across an account in a very unreliable secondary source states that once a drunk Admiral William Cornwallis had an officer flogged. After sobering up, Cornwallis gave the officer a chance to beat him with a cane, which the officer refused. Since officers couldn?t be flogged, I think the story is probably fictitious, but didn?t want to dismiss it completely before seeing if anyone else had heard of the tale and could verify it. Thanks a lot. Thank you, Eric York ----- For subscription help, go to: http://www.h-net.org/lists/help/ To change your subscription settings, go to http://h-net.msu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=h-war -----
