Ed Haynes <maharao@yahoo.com> -----Message from: daniel spector <drspector@cableone.net>----- It might be useful to contact the Army History Center and the Historian of the Chemical Corps at Fort Leonard Wodd. I recall that the US Army kept several companies of Polish soldiers on duty long after WWII as smoke generator units. Those people preferred a military job in Western Europe to staying under Soviet rule. This could be an interesting thread. Best Daniel E. Spector, PhD US Army Chemical Corps Historian, Retired daniel spector <drspector@cableone.net> -----Message from: Ed Haynes <maharao@yahoo.com>----- If you wished to include South Asia (but you are dealing with Afghanistan?) then the Gorkhas might be a useful case study, both before and after 1947. Much has been published on them, and a bit of that is good scholarship .
