Call for Papers: Producing Fashion For a conference October 28 and 29, 2005 the Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society invites papers that examine the production of fashion in consumer societies in any region of the world. The conference will be held at the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware. Clothing, home furnishings, appliances, cosmetics are all part of fashion systems whereby design and function merge in the effort to attract consumer attention - and money. For this conference we invite papers that consider how fashion is produced on the level of ideas and style as well as the materials and technologies employed to construct the very items themselves. Papers should consider the practice of producing fashion, especially business and technological aspects, and should do more than present studies of prescriptive literature such as advertising. Proposals are due by March 1, 2005, should be approximately 500 words and accompanied by a short cv. Travel funds may be available for presenters.
