As summer approaches for our Northern hemisphere subscribers, this is to remind all about the subscription options available to handle vacations, extended absences, or changes of address or institution. The subscription self-management page at H-Net is a powerful tool to help subscribers update their H-Urban subscriptions. For those who will be leaving on vacations or academic travel, we ask that you temporarily suspend your subscription during your absence if you will be leaving your email unattended or set to send automatic vacation messages. If you are using an automatic vacation message and do not change your mail setting, H-URBAN editors may be forced to suspend your subscription without notice to you so as to avoid receiving the vacation message each time a posting is sent. You may temporarily suspend your mail yourself through the convenient H-NET Subscription Management web site at http://www2.h-net.msu.edu/lists/manage.cgi by selecting "Mail delivery disabled temporarily" (and unselecting it on your return). The advantage of temporarily suspending your mail service instead of terminating your subscription and renewing it later is that this preserves all your current H-URBAN settings such as "DIGEST" or "INDEX". Another advantage of suspending your subscription over unsubscribing is that you do not have to complete a new H-Urban survey, a requirement of all new and returning subscribers. Although, if the summer is also seeing a change in your institutional status, you may wish to re-subscribe or request a new survey from us at H-Urban@h-net.msu.edu to update your status. Whatever method you choose, we encourage all H-Urban subscribers to familiarize themselves with the H-Net Subscription Management tool to be able to make changes to your subscriptions -- and of course welcome queries at h-urban@h-net.msu.edu if this does not meet your needs. Best, Wendy Plotkin H-Urban Editor
