Call for Panelist and Chair/Commentator We are looking for a third panelist interested in presenting at the next AHA Annual Conference in Washington, DC in January 2015. For more information re: the AHA “Call for Proposals,” see: http://www.historians.org/perspectives/issues/2012/1209/Call-for-Proposals-for-the-128th-Annual-Meeting.cfm. Our panel concerns gender and modernity in Turkey (or possibly the larger Middle East). Of particular interest would be papers concerning post-Ottoman Empire, especially the post-World War II era. Currently, one paper looks at American YWCA workers and their role in bringing "modernity" to the emerging Turkish nation in the 1920s and 1930s; the second paper examines post-World War II consumption and advertisements using the veil and/or its concepts.
