Heritage at The British Muslim Heritage Center (BMHC) Presents *Islam, Science & Scientism* *Professor Alparslan Acikgenc* *Yildiz University, İstanbul-Turkey* *Venue*: British Muslim Heritage Centre College Road, Whalley Range Manchester, UK, M16 8BP Date: Saturday 27th October 2012 Time: 6pm http://www.bmhc.org.uk/ Professor Alparslan Acikgenc received his PhD from the University of Chicago under the supervision of the renowned scholar Prof Fazlur Rahman. Professor Acikgenc’s main research interest is the history of science, particularly in the context of the Muslim and Western traditions. As professor of history of philosophy, he has written numerous books and articles, a number of which are directly related to the interface between Islam and science. Drawing on over four decades of experience of research and teaching in the USA, Malaysia, Indonesia, Jordan and Turkey, Prof Acikgenc will offer insights into: v How the Quran and Islam view the universe v Understanding of Science in the true Muslim Tradition v How the Qur’anic approach differs from that of Scientism v Beware Scientism : - An ideological viewpoint that claims that science alone can render truth about the world & reality
