Dear Colleague, There was an offical institute studying climatology and related events during the Hamidian era, called the Kandilli Rasathanesi. I have some publications about the climatology and seismology of the Ottoman Empire, mostly affected from European scholars but including the public's experiences as well. Trying to write an article on these documents. I have also completed a Ph.D. thesis and a book (due to be published soon) on the causes and effects of famine and droughts of the later Ottoman Empire (1800-1880). I'd like to share my experiences on these matters but I am not too well versed on seismlogy. My advise to you would be to consult the work of Caroline Finkel. My beloved colleage and admirer of Evliya Çelebi has done thorough research on this subject and has published a book, The Seismicity of Turkey and Adjacent Areas: A Historical Review, 1500-1800. There is also another well-praised work, edited by Elisabeth Zachariadou, on Natural Disasters in the Ottoman Empire. Kind Regards, Mehmet Yavuz Erler
