I've been contracted by the Tennessee River Resort Act board in Henry County, Tenn. to write a book about Camp Tyson, which was a WWII barrage balloon training facility outside of Paris, Tenn. It was the only such facility in the U.S. I'm trying to find the records from the camp. I know some of them are stored at the Univ. of Tenn.-Knoxville, but not much. I've contacted the U.S. Army and U.S. Dept. of Defense--haven't heard back yet. Bits and pieces of records are at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. I've been concentrating on interviewing people in the local area, as well as former soldiers, who have memories of the camp, before their memories fade. I'm especially having difficulty finding information about the black soldiers, the WACS and the prisoners of war who were there. Anyone have any ideas where the records for an Army camp that has been closed since 1945 would be stored? Any help would be appreciated- Shannon McFarlin Paris, Tenn.
