Thank-you for your kind comments Elise and for alerting us to Wilson's, McDiarmid's and Vinten-Johansen's work. I found them very interesting and have passed these on to colleagues in our research team. Micheal, I am pleased to say we have had a tremendous amount of national interest, and a willingness to cooperate. Our understanding is that the projects we do together will allow people to reflect local differences, but there are many things we have in common as drivers at the moment, such as standards-based assessment. The secondary national curriculum is also providing a stimulus for the tertiary sector to respond and assist. We can't force departments to take up recommendations, but we seem to have hit on things that they agree are important, and that will help drive things. Thank-you also for your suggested readings, I am familiar with the article by Diaz et al - I have found their ideas on 'bottlenecks' quite useful - but I will certainly have to seek out the others you mention, they sound intriguing! all the best Adele Dr Adele Nye Researcher in Historical Thinking Department of Modern History Macquarie University Sydney NSW Australia
