One of the things that I have noticed , and it might be a personal opinion is that straight forward painters who transfer over to becoming glaziers often design interesting windows, perhaps it's because they don't suffer from the constraints that knowledge of the trade brings with it. A few artists who have made the crossover, sometimes more successfully than others include: John Piper Fernand Leger Jean Cocteau Johan Thorn Prikker Theo van Doesburg Edward Burne-Jones Harry Clarke Otto Dix Grant Wood Marc Chagall Some have made the transition in ways that might be considered more interesting than others . For instance the window at Chichester Cathedral attributed to Chagall looks like a painting that's been cut up and randomly reassembled , and could be described as neither making it as a window nor as a painting yet within itself remains an interesting object. jon --
