Let's take this one stage further. If you consider the German studio method, designers some of whom also work as artists, get on and do their bit, without the constraining knowledge of how a piece of glass might cut or behave, while the studios sort out the practicalities of actually making the windows, this results in very graphic designs, which if you were to attempt to produce as a designer by first of all laying down rules of production, would look absolutely awful. Anyway, as for rules their good thing is that they should be and are broken, especially by the adventurous who wish to push the dynamics of their chosen medium. jon --
