Greetings Inaugural Subscribers!
H-Southern-Music “went live” yesterday, November 1, 2005 and I have just
completed the subscribing
process for those who responded in the first twenty-four hours. There are 24
of us from four countries
so far: United States (20), Poland (1), Denmark(1), Australia (2). The
editorial team will likely be fully
subscribed by day’s end, and will (I expect) begin to introduce themselves and
talk about what we hope
this list can become.
For my part, I am Paul Fischer, your humble subscriptions editor. While I will
dabble in providing
content and editing same, my main function is to keep the members list clean
and accurate so we can
function well as a community of interested parties. I am an Associate
Professor in the Department of
Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University
(www.mtsu.edu/~record), near Nashville. I hold
a Ph.D. in American Culture Studies and serve on the Executive Committee of
IASPM-US, the United
States branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music
(www.iaspm-us.net). I was
its President from 2000-2002, and will be hosting its annual conference at
MTSU this February. My
most recent conference presentation was on the theological dimension in Bruce
Springsteen’s music at
the “Glory Days: A Bruce Springsteen Symposium” held in New Jersey in
September, and I’ve got an
online publication about music and censorship I’m reasonably proud of that can
be found at
(www.freemuse.org). So, welcome y’all, this is going to be an interesting
ride.
