-------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABC-CLIO is currently producing, under the editorship of Dr. Ed Pershey of the Western Reserve Historical Society, an Encyclopedia of American Technology. There are a number of entries still to be written, and we are looking for qualified individuals to write on a variety of topics. This book will survey the social history of technology in the United States from the earliest colonization by Europeans to the present. The entries will enable the reader to understand how specific inventions, technological systems, individuals, and events influenced the history, cultural development, and even self-identity of the United States and its people. In turn, the entries will also demonstrate how American culture, government, and society influenced technological development. The volume will consider the role played by African Americans and other ethnic groups in the history of technology, as well as the technologies of Native Americans. The subject areas included under the rubric of "technology" will include architecture, civil engineering, transportation, energy, extractive industries (mining and oil), chemical industries, electronics, computer and information technology, communications (television, radio, print), agriculture and food technology, and military technology. The issue of the relationships between gender and technology will also be central to this volume. This encyclopedia is not, however, a collection of technical entries. If you are interested in finding out more information and/or receiving the list of entries available, please e-mail a copy of your c.v. to Dr. Steven Danver at sdanver@abc-clio.com. -- H-SCI-MED-TECH The H-Net list for the History of Science, Medicine and Technology Email address for postings: h-sci-med-tech@h-net.msu.edu Homepage: http://www.h-net.org/~smt/ To unsubscribe or change your subscription options, please use the Web Interface: http://www.h-net.org/lists/manage.cgi
